mmmmmm, such a lovely lens.

Some of my friends decided to be really awesome, so they all chipped in to buy me a sweet new lens for Christmas. I have been saving to get this lens for a while now, and Paul Rohde had the idea to get it for me, with the help of some of my friends (Peter Boysen, Andy Hamilton, Amy Kopitzke, Alyson Norgaard, Dan Elo, Dave Priebe, Priscilla Priebe, Ingrid Ogren, and Chad Wardwell).

So I am a bit excited. Here are some pictures with the new lens. Thanks guys!

To celebrate, I have set up three new photo galleries for your enjoyment.

They cover the types of Nouns: Person, Place, and Thing. At some point I may add a conceptual gallery, for Ideas… but I don’t feel like being that grammatically correct today. *smirk*

The dock hacks have continued beyond the initial discovery of the no-glass look. It has been discovered that the dock is a set of .png files, so get Photoshop warmed up, cause this is going to be fun.

To find the current set of dock images navigate to:
/System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app
ctrl click on dock.app and select “Show Package Contents”.
Then Navigate to:
/Contents/Resources/
Then dig through folder to find these 4 .png’s:
scurve-l.png
scurve-m.png
scurve-sm.png
scurve-xl.png

Now drag a copy of them to your desktop, whip them into Photoshop, and create your own custom dock.

After you have something wickedly awesome, make a backup of the original files, and then copy the edited ones into the Resources folder to replace the standard ones. Restart the dock with the terminal command killall Dock, and you should be all good to go.

My personal favorite customization, so far, is the smoke dock… which is sadly no longer available, though it wouldn’t be the hardest thing to make in Photoshop. Here is what it once looked like: http://gadgets.bligblog.com/5562/smoke-glass-dock/. One of my friends downloaded the .png’s for the ’smoke dock’ before the site went down. I will try to get them up here.
