In which Jordan goes to a Barber for the first time in his life

I decided that it was time for my yearly shave. Since I only do this once a year (for the last several years anyway…), I resolved to be shaved in the luxury of a barber’s chair. Hoping for hot towels, lather, and a straight razor, I googled “Winona Barber Shop” and the first result was Tom’s. I gave Tom a call, and he confirmed that old fashion shaves were available and said that he had an opening at 4:30. Tom was an accommodating fellow, and very handy with his clippers. I’m pleased with the result.

This year has been filled with many events and responsibilities – Full-time employment, school, graduation, trip to Hawaii, marriage, moving – all of these are great; and all of these have helped contribute to a backlog of several thousand, unsorted, unedited, unblogged photographs. Over the last month I have removed the un’s from the aforementioned photographs, resulting in over one hundred that I’d like to show to you. These photographs are of my trip to Hawaii, my marriage, honeymoon, and various other things that I have seen during the last 6 months.

Starting with this post, I am going to begin posting several photographs every day; making up for all the posts I should have made earlier this year.

Don’t be shy – I welcome your thoughts, critique, and compliments – I’d love for you to comment.

This guy is really cold.

The color of the day suggests that is might not be that cold, but there was a brisk wind blowing. My trigger finger became stiff very quickly.

There was some pretty thick hoar frost this morning. Sadly there was no sun and everything was frightfully overcast. But with a little bit of playing on the camera and in Lightroom, I came out with some decent images.

mmmmmm, such a lovely lens.

Some of my friends decided to be really awesome, so they all chipped in to buy me a sweet new lens for Christmas. I have been saving to get this lens for a while now, and Paul Rohde had the idea to get it for me, with the help of some of my friends (Peter Boysen, Andy Hamilton, Amy Kopitzke, Alyson Norgaard, Dan Elo, Dave Priebe, Priscilla Priebe, Ingrid Ogren, and Chad Wardwell).

So I am a bit excited. Here are some pictures with the new lens. Thanks guys!

Brushing off the dust

My wonderful Macbook is sadly lacking in hard drive space, being that it only has 60gb. And when I can fill up a 2gb card on my camera in a day or two… it doesn’t take long to run out. So I bought a 120gb external hardrive. It’s a small portable one, and needs only a USB cable to run…no extra power or anything. It’s über handy.

In the process of moving my pictures from my laptop to my new external, and also moving pictures from my backup external to my new one, I discovered some pictures that I had taken a while ago in need of ‘dusting’. So here they be.

Took a few more pictures in the studio today… I am starting to feel mildly vain. I think this is due to the fact that I keep using myself as a subject, to test my lighting, and then end up with cool shots that I am compelled to post.
So here they are.

I just acquired a Pentax 645 Medium format camera(it’s an older camera that’s been hanging around at work) and am planning to do some shooting with it. It comes with a decent arsenal of lenses, a 150mm f3.5, a 75mm f2.8, a 55mm f2.8, and a 35mm f3.5. Loads of fun are sure to be had.

I will mostly be shooting in black and white, using Fuji NeoPan 400ISO film, but because I was anxious to use the camera yesterday, I grabbed a roll of Kodak Porta 160nc (color) to start with. To get a feel camera, I set it up in my studio and shot some self-portraits using the help of my friend Alyson, because the Pentax doesn’t have a timed shutter release. I used a lighting angle similar to one that my friend Peter likes to use, and the 55mm for a little bit of a wide angle feel. I’ll have to get my film developed before you or I get to see them, but they should turn out well.

Here are some decent test shots that I took with my 20D, just to give you a taste.

In other news, we’ve had some interesting clouds the last few weeks ’round here. So I took a couple shots and used a graduated grey filter to help make things pop.

October’s portraits (and other misc pics)

Over the last month I have shot 500+ photographs for work, school, and me. While this amount may seem mild to some, it is definitely a large increase for me. That being said, I have had to organize a lot more pictures and have had a harder time finding a moment to put pictures up here.

I am a photographer for Winona State University’s Communication Dept. (PR), and my work entails covering events on campus, taking publicity shots, and fulfilling other various photography needs. I generally take lots of candid pictures for work, so it has been fun developing that skill. For my Photo Communication class, I usually have a project to work on every other week. So I am continually on the lookout for subject matter that fits my assignment. (The ‘Fire’ Hydrant pictures were for a class project).

Because it has been awhile since I uploaded any pictures, I decided to gather some of my best shots from this month. Most of them are portraits and candids, though there are a few landscape photos in there too.

Anyway…I’m going to attempt to upload things more regularly… we shall see. Anyway, Enjoy!
